Top SchoolMitchell Mortensen is a software engineering manager with eight years of experience building and scaling backend systems, currently leading high-throughput application split and database scalability efforts at Waystar. He blends hands-on engineering with architectural stewardship, having owned system architecture, CI/CD standardization, and automated testing across multiple teams. His background includes building .NET/Postgres services and REST APIs at Fishbowl, plus earlier work on a photo-realistic reinforcement learning simulator (Holodeck) at BYU, giving him an uncommon mix of production systems and ML-adjacent research exposure. Mitchell is results-driven—his recent migration reduced client-impacting defects by ~20% while extending core DB runway by years. Based in Lehi, Utah, he mentors engineers and shapes guardrails that let teams move faster with confidence. He’s approachable and open to collaboration, reflected in an active GitHub presence and BYU roots.
