Top SchoolMoritz Schubotz is a researcher and software engineer with 13 years of experience at the intersection of information retrieval, mathematical knowledge services, and backend engineering. Based in Berlin, he leads efforts at FIZ Karlsruhe to build a research group on mathematical information retrieval, tackling scalability of literature, formal proofs, and research artifacts for zbMATH. His background spans academia and standards institutions — including roles at NIST, TU Berlin, and an interim professorship — reflecting deep expertise in reproducible research and data quality (he served on the EOSC FAIR Metrics task force). Moritz is also an active open-source contributor to high-impact projects like MediaWiki, where he improved backend HTTP handling, caching, and SPARQL client behaviors while adding robust tests. He holds a PhD in Informatics and a Diplom in Physics, a combination that shows both theoretical rigor and practical coding craftsmanship. Less obvious: he moves fluidly between producing research-grade software and shaping infrastructure-level standards that improve how mathematical knowledge is curated and accessed.

Contributions summary:Moritz contributed to improving the MediaWiki back-end code, specifically focusing on HTTP requests and object caching. They added tests for GuzzleHttpRequest, mimicking `CURLOPT_POST` behavior for consistency. The user also updated a script for PHPUnit coverage, and improved SPARQL client functionality by adding fluent setters. Furthermore, they corrected a maintenance script and fixed a type hint, enhancing code quality.
