Top SchoolNan Ma is a Principal Software Engineer in the San Francisco Bay Area with 12 years of experience building large-scale data and experimentation systems at Microsoft, where she leads development of an A/B testing platform that runs 1,000+ simultaneous experiments and a data engineering service that moves and exposes data across 1,000+ databases. Her background bridges rigorous academic research—PhD work on information-theoretic DNA compression and proofs of optimality—with hands-on engineering across Rails, C#, Python, JavaScript and large ETL pipelines. She specializes in statistics, algorithm analysis, system modeling, and visualization, turning massive datasets into actionable insights that change how teams make decisions. Beyond production systems, she’s one of only three people to solve the seven-dimensional Rubik’s Cube and has lectured on algorithm construction, reflecting a rare blend of deep theory, practical delivery, and playful intellectual curiosity.
