Nathan Korinek is a geospatial and environmental data scientist with eight years of experience building scalable, open-source workflows for climate and ecosystem science. Currently an ORISE Climate Data Fellow at USGS and a graduate researcher at CU Boulder, he specializes in large-scale remote sensing pipelines using Xarray, Dask, and Zarr, plus reproducible analysis and visualization that communicate uncertainty to diverse audiences. He has production experience developing widely used Earth Lab Python packages and contributed to GeoPandas, helping make geospatial tools more accessible for education and research. His work spans academia, government, and nonprofits, producing published analyses, machine learning models for landscape change, and automated testing that reduced manual QA time. Beyond coding, he designs and runs field campaigns with UAS multispectral imaging and pairs those observations with cloud-native processing to close the loop between data collection and insight. Based in Lafayette, Colorado, he’s passionate about mission-driven projects in climate, ecosystems, and public-good technology — and bakes excellent sourdough when not at his terminal.
