Top SchoolNathan Shane is a behavioral health counselor and MSW graduate from Hunter College who brings 11 years of professional experience blending clinical rigor with creative problem-solving. He specializes in trauma-informed, harm-reduction care for clients with mental health and substance use challenges, integrating DBT, ACT, CBT, motivational interviewing, psychodynamic approaches, and liberation health principles. At the Jewish Board he manages a large caseload while co-facilitating DBT skills groups and coordinating multidisciplinary care, and he has substantial experience leading groups for mandated and non-mandated populations including reentry and shelter residents. A decade-long mindfulness practice informs his respectful, strengths-based stance and his emphasis on helping clients recognize structural trauma and oppression. He presented his shelter-based group work at the International Association for Social Work with Groups symposium in 2022, reflecting a commitment to both practice and scholarship. Prior technical roles in web development and software engineering give him a practical fluency with technology that supports modern, data-informed clinical work.
