Top SchoolNelson Da Costa is a Staff Engineer based in Paris with 11 years of experience navigating the intersection of engineering and management, currently shaping platform and delivery at PayFit after a senior tenure at sunday. He blends hands-on Kotlin/Java/PHP development with leadership—having led teams up to eight, managed 20 reports, and run a 20–30 person software craftsmanship tribe at OCTO Technology. Nelson is skilled in Domain-Driven Design, EventStorming facilitation, and test-first practices, and has delivered both greenfield projects and legacy modernizations across consultancy and product environments. He’s been repeatedly trusted to hire and mentor—conducting around 100 interviews and delivering trainings on clean code and TDD—bringing a people-first approach to technical decisions. Based in Île-de-France with a BE in Computer Science from Edinburgh Napier, he toggles the engineer/manager pendulum to align socio-technical systems with measurable delivery outcomes. An understated strength is his track record of making organizational rituals (tribes, workshops, hiring) into levers for consistent engineering quality.
