Top SchoolNicolas Auffray is a French academic and engineering professional with seven years of documented experience and a longer research career culminating in a Professorship at Sorbonne Université. Trained as an engineer and PhD from Institut national polytechnique de Grenoble and Arts et Métiers, he has deep expertise in applied mechanics, thermal identification, and multi-scale modelling developed through CNRS laboratories and a postdoc. He blends rigorous academic research with practical software and UI work, notably contributing front-end design and theming improvements to the widely used open-source photography application darktable. His profile reflects a rare combination of teaching, research leadership, and hands-on UI development—able to translate complex scientific problems into usable software interfaces. Based in France, he is comfortable operating at the interface of experimental measurement, numerical modelling and user-centered software design. Colleagues can expect a methodical, design-aware scientist who values both precision and usability.
