Nicolas Farrugia is a Full Professor and interdisciplinary researcher blending electrical engineering, deep learning, auditory cognition and cognitive neuroscience, with 11+ years of research and teaching experience. He earned an MSc in Signal and Image Processing and a PhD on parallel embedded architectures for face alignment, then pivoted to neuroscience to study rhythm, brain oscillations and musical cognition using EEG, fMRI, motion capture and behavioral methods. At IMT Atlantique he leads transdisciplinary work in the BRAIn team, combining graph signal processing and neural representations to bridge human and artificial intelligence. His publications span NeuroImage, Network Neuroscience and Neuropsychologia, reflecting a rare combination of hardware-focused DNN implementation expertise and human brain studies. Based in Brest, France, he has applied rhythmic interventions to Parkinson’s rehabilitation and investigated involuntary musical imagery, showing a practical bent to his fundamental research. Colleagues describe him as a connector between engineering rigor and experimental cognitive science, able to translate biological insights into computational models.
