Top SchoolNikolai Kliuev is a Principal Software Engineer based in London with 11 years of experience building backend and full-stack systems, currently focused on Scala and distributed backend architectures. He has progressed from front-end ownership and performance optimization to leading teams and shaping architecture at companies like Netcracker, Waves Enterprise, and Copper.co. Nikolai blends deep practical knowledge of Scala, Java, Akka, Kafka and PostgreSQL with hands-on TypeScript/React front-end experience, having built blockchain node components and explorers as well as large single-page applications. He routinely balances engineering leadership—mentoring teams, making stack choices and doing code reviews—with hands-on delivery of high-performance systems. Ambitious about functional programming, he’s completing the FP in Scala specialization and aims to contribute to major open-source projects, signaling a move from pragmatic engineering to more formal, functional design. A civil engineering graduate by training, he brings a systems-minded, detail-oriented approach honed across both frontend performance tuning and backend distributed systems.
