Top SchoolNils Schimmelmann is a product and engineering leader with 17 years of experience building large-scale personalization and applied ML platforms, currently directing product management for Yahoo’s content personalization serving 900 million users. He combines hands-on technical depth—reinforcing recommender systems, real-time inference, and MLOps—with cross-organizational leadership to navigate privacy, compliance, and instrumentation at scale. His teams have driven measurable gains (e.g., double-digit CTR and engagement improvements and revenue uplift) by applying deep learning, collaborative filtering, NLP, and graph-based crawling. Nils has a strong research and data background (MS in Bioinformatics) and early work in bioinformatics and information extraction informs his rigorous approach to feature engineering and model evaluation. Known as a technologist and tinkerer outside work, he balances family life and wide-ranging curiosities—from Tolkien lore to hands-on prototypes—that keep his product thinking creative and user-centered.
