Senior🎓
Top SchoolNrupatunga Tunga is a Senior Staff Engineer with 10 years of experience specializing in deep learning for computer vision, particularly object detection, tracking, recognition and metric learning, with a strong focus on designing compact, mobile-optimized models. He has led and deployed vision solutions across consumer mobile products and edtech platforms—shipping image enhancement, burst-photo ranking and on-device DL models at Samsung and BYJU'S before his current role at LightMetrics. His background blends hands-on C/C++ multi-threaded optimization and signal-processing expertise from an IISc master's with research-driven model design, enabling both high accuracy and efficient runtime. Comfort with the full pipeline—from data collection and labeling to model porting on Android—means he routinely translates research prototypes into production-ready, resource-constrained systems. An interesting thread through his career is repeating impact at the device level: improving photographic UX and porting ML to phones rather than only scaling cloud models.
