Oliver Brown is a Chancellor’s Fellow and applications-focused researcher at EPCC, University of Edinburgh, with 11 years’ experience building HPC and data-science software and leading efforts to integrate exotic compute—especially quantum processors—into traditional HPC workflows. He combines a strong academic background in many-body quantum physics (PhD) with practical engineering: developing production-ready code for projects like INTERTWinE, HiLeMMS and EPiGRAM-HS, lecturing MSc students, and running ARCHER helpdesk duties. As founder/leader of EPCC’s Quantum Applications Group he asks pragmatic questions—where, when and how to use quantum computers—and translates that into demonstrators and consultancy for academia and industry. Beyond research, he contributes to reproducible development practices inspired by early industry internships and maintains an active GitHub presence focused on quantum-HPC tooling.
