Top SchoolOscar Chen is a Senior Software Engineer with nine years of experience building backend systems and data platforms across civic tech, fintech, and energy tech. He specializes in high-leverage engineering for uncertain, real-world domains—starting new products and teams, shipping rigorous data pipelines, and operational services that drive measurable business outcomes. At companies from Civis and Better to Qcells and Gridmatic he’s led cross-functional projects delivering billing/reporting backends, simulation APIs, and automation that materially increased operational efficiency. He brings a pragmatic focus on context and value, pairing deep technical craft (data modeling, event-driven architectures, batch/telemetry pipelines) with stakeholder-led product thinking. Recently he’s applied LLMs and vector search in prototyping greenfield energy applications, signaling a knack for integrating emerging AI into domain workflows. Based in San Francisco, he thrives in fast-moving environments where engineering choices directly impact decarbonization and market-facing products.
