Summary
👤
SeniorØyvind Almelid is a Software Engineer and Technical Lead with nine years of experience building scalable, sustainable systems at the intersection of software engineering and scientific research. He combines a PhD in elementary particle physics with hands-on expertise in cloud infrastructure, API design, microservices, and Linux server management to deliver everything from rapid prototypes to long-lived production services. At Genomics England and the University of Edinburgh he has led bioinformatics pipeline and web platform work, including a nextflow pipeline processing terabytes of ChIP-seq data and a fast-recovered recruitment site launched after a year-long delay. His background spans Java microservices, serverless variant stores, and orchestration of complex deployments, and he is comfortable contributing across R&D, development, and operations. Colleagues rely on him for pragmatic architecture and delivery-focused leadership that bridges research rigor with production-grade engineering. He enjoys working at the boundary of science and software, turning complex biological questions into reliable, deployable systems.
