Panos Vassiliadis is a professor of Computer Science at the University of Ioannina with a longstanding research focus on data warehousing, OLAP, ETL and metadata modeling, built on a PhD from NTUA. He investigates rigorous modeling of data and software to enable design, visualization and smooth evolution of data-intensive ecosystems, notably mining software repositories to discover laws of schema evolution. His recent work reframes OLAP around higher-level operators and “data storytelling,” packaging data, ML models and narrative highlights to enrich query answers. Since joining Ioannina in 2002 he progressed through every faculty rank to full professor, combining deep academic rigor with practical tool-building through his DAINTINESS group. Based in Ioannina, Greece, he brings both long-term institutional leadership and a curiosity for uncovering repeatable patterns in the evolution of real-world database schemata.
