Patrick De Mars is a Senior Data Scientist at the National Energy System Operator with eight years' experience applying AI and data science to energy systems, built on a PhD in Artificial Intelligence & Energy from UCL. He combines academic rigour—lecturing and supervising energy-data modules at UCL—with hands-on production work in forecasting, optimisation and digital twins across utilities and ports. His background spans end-to-end projects from research-grade time-series forecasting and heating optimisation to deploying Python/AWS solutions and mentoring junior engineers. Notably, he led development of a maritime digital twin and has supported BEIS-funded research linking smart-meter analytics to building control. Based in the UK, Patrick bridges the gap between cutting-edge energy research and operational DSO challenges, with a knack for turning complex models into practical, deployable tools.
