Pavan Katta is a software engineer with nine years of experience building large-scale search, indexing, and AI systems, currently working on AI safety and text-to-speech models for voice agents at Salient in San Francisco. He was a founding engineer at Dashworks where he built petabyte-scale retrieval infrastructure that contributed to an acquisition by HubSpot, and previously worked on Bing search infrastructure at Microsoft. During a recent independent research sabbatical he produced mechanistic interpretability work—authoring an arXiv paper on scaling laws and feature superposition and developing AlphaSAE, a sparse-autoencoder tool that sped AlphaZero training 250x—which earned an Open Philanthropy research grant and a fellowship under Neel Nanda’s MATS. Trained at IIT Madras in Electrical Engineering, he blends production-grade systems engineering with deep, hands-on research into the internals of neural networks.
