Pedro Palazzo is an associate professor and architectural historian with over a decade of experience researching and preserving built heritage across the western Mediterranean and the Portuguese-speaking world. He combines academic scholarship—PhD in Architecture and Urbanism—with hands-on conservation practice through his consultancy Ábaco Arquitetura, advising institutions like IPHAN and producing interpretive work for Brasilia’s heritage. His research probes the interface between traditional and modern construction and the dialogue between classical learned architectures and vernacular typologies, with current projects on adaptive strategies in traditional buildings. A visiting scholar in Lisbon and researcher on Portugal–Brazil architectural relations, he brings transnational perspective and archival rigor to questions of urbanization and material culture. As a teacher and public-facing practitioner, he translates deep historical knowledge into practical preservation recommendations and exhibitions. Less obvious: his background spans both US and Brazilian training (University of Maryland and Universidade de Brasília), enabling a comparative lens in his scholarship and consultancy.
