Peter Peneder is a machine learning researcher and bioinformatician with eight years of experience applying deep learning to precision medicine and biosecurity. As a Research Scientist on SecureBio’s AIxBio team, he builds safeguards and scientific-capability benchmarks to evaluate how frontier AI models predict biological experiment outcomes and generate hypotheses to prevent AI-enabled misuse. His PhD work produced multimodal models for single-cell transcriptomics and epigenetic liquid biopsy classifiers that improved pediatric cancer detection and monitoring (Nature Communications, 2021). He co-developed CellWhisperer, an interactive multimodal system for exploring single-cell data via natural language, reflecting his focus on usable AI tools for biologists. Based in Vienna, he blends rigorous academic training in bioinformatics with hands-on engineering to move models from research into evaluative frameworks for real-world risk mitigation. An underappreciated strength is his ability to translate complex genomic signals into interpretable ML features that inform both diagnostics and model-safety evaluations.
