Phil Bouchet is a Senior Statistician and quantitative ecologist with a decade of experience applying GIS and advanced statistical models to marine conservation problems across fishes, sharks, turtles and cetaceans. Trained as a marine mammalogist and then a PhD in Marine Predator Ecology, he blends field experience (from satellite tagging and theodolite tracking to aerial survey design) with simulation and theoretical approaches at local to global scales. He has held research and teaching roles at leading institutions including St Andrews, UWA and Bangor and now brings that ecological and statistical expertise to Biomathematics and Statistics Scotland. Phil’s work is notable for translating complex spatial and population models into decision-ready outputs for conservation, and for rare cross-disciplinary skills spanning coding, GIS and hands-on field methods. Based in Aberdeen, he combines deep marine ecology knowledge with practical statistical rigour to tackle pressing wildlife threats.
