Senior🎓
Top SchoolPhilip Reed is a software engineer with 11 years of experience straddling data engineering and backend development, currently based in Chicago. He combines a strong Python backend skillset with practical experience in Scala, Rust, AWS architectures, and production data workflows such as Airflow, Kafka, and Spark. His work ranges from building green-field CI/CD for QuickSight and automating large-scale claim-line processing to converting SAS Viya pipelines to Python, demonstrating both technical breadth and pragmatic migration judgement. Philip pairs hands-on engineering with a PhD-trained research mindset—he has scaled code to run millions of regressions for peer-reviewed social science and applies iterative, customer-driven evaluation to architecture choices. He’s also practiced in mentoring and process improvement, having cut batch times by ~60% and onboarded colleagues into critical production roles. Curious and methodical, he’s exploring Rust and organizational behavior while translating research rigor into reliable data platforms.
