Pierre Larmande is a senior research scientist and Directeur de Recherche (DR2) at IRD with over a decade of experience specializing in data integration, the Semantic Web, and knowledge management for plant genomics. He has led multidisciplinary teams and labs across France and Vietnam, driving multi-scale integration of genomic, NGS and high-throughput phenotyping data for rice and other crops. His work bridges computational biology and applied research—combining ontology engineering, semantic data linking and big data architectures—to support regional partnerships with institutions like USTH, IRRI and ICAR. Holder of an HDR and a PhD in Informatics, he is known for turning complex biological datasets into interoperable knowledge resources and for embedding semantic approaches into real-world plant science platforms. Notably, he has maintained long-term leadership of data integration groups and contributed to national research infrastructures such as the South Green Platform.
