Pieter Colpaert is a professor at IDLab, Ghent University – imec, with 15 years of experience researching and building cost-efficient, maintainable Linked Data Web APIs and public Web APIs. He earned a PhD in 2017 for work on automating data integration for transport route planning and applied those principles across smart cities, digital twins, heritage, logistics and rail infrastructure during a postdoc and technology coordination roles. A co-founder and long-time leader of Open Knowledge Belgium, he blends academic rigor with civic open-data activism and practical open-source projects like The DataTank and iRail. He teaches and develops courses on Knowledge Graphs and Linked Data & Solid, and is known for making semantic web ideas pragmatic and production-ready.
