Pil Kwon is a professional cartographer and spatial data analyst based in Seoul with over a decade of experience designing basemaps and building automated POI pipelines for major platforms. Trained as a geographer with advanced GIS and cartography degrees, he has blended academic R&D with product-focused roles at NAVER, NAVER Cloud, Karrot and startups to operationalize multilayered map services across global and local data sources. He specializes in integrating diverse datasets (OSM, HERE, Zenrin, iPC, Foursquare, Tripadvisor, Naver, iNAVI) into Mapbox/MapLibre ecosystems while maintaining daily-updated, high-quality place and POI data largely as a solo operator. Pil’s work balances cartographic readability and heuristics with spatial database engineering, and he’s one of the few professional cartographers operating at scale in South Korea. Outside day-to-day production, he documents cartographic philosophy and enjoys transforming disparate data into coherent map products.
