Rainer Paat is an R&D manager and seasoned software architect with nearly two decades of engineering experience, who blends deep software expertise from a 12+ year tenure at Skype with hands-on hardware and embedded systems work. Currently leading cross-disciplinary teams at Skawen, he builds proptech solutions that improve building performance and reduce environmental impact by combining HVAC domain knowledge with custom hardware and software. He co-founded RCSnail and engineered low-latency video control systems that were even experimented with to drive a real car, reflecting a practical appetite for robotics and autonomy. Rainer has mentored students and supervised projects at the University of Tartu, contributed interactive exhibits to AHHAA Science Centre, and guided a student solar car effort—demonstrating a strong commitment to education and sustainability. With an academic background in physics (MSc, BSc cum laude) and a persistent curiosity for system-level design, he excels at turning ambitious, multidisciplinary ideas into working products.
