Top SchoolRicardo Fretes is a seasoned full-stack engineer and technology leader with 12 years of experience who now serves as Head of Engineering at Joyous in Auckland. He combines hands-on expertise across frontend, backend, and mobile stacks with a proven track record of shipping production systems, from founding a healthcare-focused startup to driving cloud migrations and CI/CD transformations at enterprise teams like SKY TV and ANZ. Known for turning messy vendor codebases into high-quality, rapidly deployable products, he excels at building lightweight processes, mentoring teams, and aligning engineering delivery to business needs. Comfortable making architectural trade-offs, he has practical experience with React/React Native, Spring Boot, AWS/GCP, Docker and IaC, and a knack for designing cost- and time-conscious solutions for non-technical clients. Quietly entrepreneurial, he has taken a product from concept to production in a regulated domain, demonstrating both technical depth and strong stakeholder management.
