Richard Xu is a Full Professor of Mathematics at Hong Kong Baptist University and a founder with over 20 years of experience bridging academic research and industry-focused AI solutions. He has led large multidisciplinary teams and numerous contractual projects across sectors—defence, finance, utilities, transport and agriculture—translating cutting-edge machine learning into real-world impact. Formerly a prominent machine learning educator and lab director at UTS, he produced extensive open-course materials (2000+ slides, 100+ hours of video) that have attracted tens of thousands of followers worldwide. His research spans AI, deep learning, computer vision and Bayesian methods, with high-impact publications and collaborations with Oxford, Cambridge and Imperial colleagues. Equally comfortable in the lab and the boardroom, he founded Deep Learning Sydney and now leads a commercial venture, TadReamk Limited, to commercialize applied AI. A practical inventor at heart, his career began in software engineering at IBM and evolved into academic leadership that prioritizes industry translation and scalable deployment.
