Robert Bjarnason is a veteran technology entrepreneur and CTO with over three decades of hands-on experience building pioneering internet, gaming, fintech, and civic-AI systems from Iceland to London and the U.S. He co-founded the Citizens Foundation to blend collective intelligence and AI for digital democracy used in 50 countries, and more recently co-founded Evoly to commercialize AI collaboration platforms that sustain the nonprofit’s mission. Early wins include creating one of the first mobile versions of The Sims, multiple BAFTA-winning projects, and developing Agent Ruby—an art-world AI chatbot now in SFMOMA’s permanent collection. A pragmatic polyglot engineer and product leader, he has repeatedly turned experimental AI and multimedia ideas into resilient, revenue-generating products (including pioneering AI trading tech that funded the nonprofit). Not obvious from his title: he shipped production AI code as far back as the late 1980s and has operational artifacts from that era still in active use.
