Top SchoolRobert Howie is a research fellow at Curtin University's Space Science and Technology Centre, applying mechatronics and mechanical engineering expertise to advance solar system science and strengthen Australia's role in space. With a PhD in Mechanical Engineering and three years of focused research experience, he bridges robotics, instrumentation and planetary observation—skills honed from roles running the Desert Fireball Network and tutoring across engineering schools. He combines hands-on robotics practice ("I make robot move") with academic rigor, designing and supporting systems that track and characterise meteoroids. Based in Perth, he brings multidisciplinary collaboration experience and a practical, lab-to-field perspective that helps turn complex space science concepts into operational capability.
