Robert Karl
Software Engineer
Seattle, Washington, United States
Summary
👤
SeniorRobert Karl is a founder and software engineer in Seattle with 14 years of experience building production-grade systems for AI, mobile, and cloud infrastructure. He specializes in on-premises AI infrastructure and GPU cluster scaling—work informed by roles at xnor.ai and AWS—and now leads a stealth startup enabling companies to keep sensitive data off the cloud. His background spans early mobile engineering at Hipmunk and Facebook to entrepreneurial projects like Velvetax, where he launched an open-source crypto tax kernel and built resilient, zero-downtime deployments. Comfortable across Python, Kubernetes, PyTorch, and C++, he blends systems engineering with practical ML ops and automation. Notably, he has repeatedly solved single-point-of-failure problems in clustered environments, turning research-grade models into reliable, real-time demos and production services. Trained at Caltech, he pairs deep technical chops with a founder’s instinct for productizing complex tooling.
