Roeland Ordelman is a Technology Innovation Advisor and product-focused research engineer who builds publicly grounded AI and national-scale digital infrastructures for audiovisual heritage. With a PhD in speech technology and more than two decades in academia and institutional R&D, he translates speech and multimodal research into production platforms such as the CLARIAH Media Suite and national coordination through CLARIAH-NL. He initiated HOSAN to make Dutch speech recognition an inclusive, publicly governed infrastructure that fairly represents dialects and non-native speakers, reflecting his focus on strategic digital sovereignty. Roeland blends hands-on technical coordination with product strategy and governance, convening multidisciplinary teams to validate AI in real-world archival settings rather than in isolation. He also chairs Stichting Open Spraaktechnologie and runs an innovation consultancy, combining deep speech-tech expertise with practical experience in scaling prototypes into sustainable ecosystems.
