Senior🎓
Top SchoolRommel Rico is a hands-on Software Engineering Manager in San Diego with 12+ years of professional development experience and a track record of shipping production systems since 2010. Currently leading an AI-focused engineering team at Alchemer, he balances strategic architecture and org-wide technical direction with day-to-day coding, pairing, and unblockings. He previously spent seven years at the University of San Diego building portals and mobile apps that improved student and faculty experiences, and later scaled features across reputation-management products at Chatmeter. Known for evangelizing pragmatic engineering practices—SCRUM/Kanban, GitHub workflows, and CI/CD—he still dives into code and design reviews to mentor engineers. Rommel blends product-minded leadership with platform-level thinking, often surfacing non-obvious infrastructure and FERPA-compliance improvements from his hands-on work. He writes and posts about engineering leadership and AI, and welcomes conversations with engineers considering the move into management.
