Top SchoolRuaan Van Der Spuy is a Cape Town–based software engineer and founder with 11 years of professional experience building production-grade frontend and multi-service platforms across fintech, healthcare, AI, and enterprise SaaS. Transitioning from an Honours in Philosophy and a background in writing, he blends clear product thinking and technical excellence to lead architecture, re-architecture, and developer-experience initiatives. As Head of Engineering at Defijn and owner of Realm Software, he has driven CI/CD, testing, observability, and adoption of AI/ML patterns such as RAG pipelines and computer vision. His hands-on history ranges from cinematic, browser-pushing frontends and JS SDKs to backend billing systems and analytics dashboards, demonstrating comfort across the full stack. Known for reducing technical debt and aligning engineering with business outcomes, he pairs entrepreneurial ownership with a rare mix of literary rigor and practical coding craft.
