Top SchoolRyan Small is a Principal Engineer with 12 years of hands-on experience building and modernizing cloud platforms, reliability engineering, and security-ready infrastructure across startups and large enterprises. He excels in ambiguous environments, turning messy organizational and operating-model problems into clear ownership, roadmaps, and repeatable systems while remaining a principally individual contributor who ships end-to-end solutions. His background spans production SRE, platform modernization, incident response, and developer experience—delivering SOX/PCI-compliant services and supporting large-scale fleets and ML/GPU workloads. Recently he’s focused on agentic AI workflows and practical AI tooling to boost engineering productivity and task orchestration. Comfortable both forming teams and mentoring senior engineers, he brings a rare mix of systems-minded engineering, security rigor, and experience operating global datacenter and cloud fleets. An early career in international teaching and GIS gives him strong cross-cultural communication and data-focused thinking that informs his pragmatic approach to complex systems.
