Ryan Story
Manufacturing Lab Manager at University of Iowa Mechanical Engineering
Iowa City, Iowa, United States
Summary
👤
SeniorRyan Story is a hands-on manufacturing lab manager and mechanical engineer with 11 years of experience turning concepts into hardware across aerospace and cryogenics. He has moved between roles at startups and large firms—Van’s Aircraft, Collins Aerospace, Boom Supersonic, and Eaton—bringing systems-level thinking to structures, avionics requirements, and cryogenic cooler development. Now leading a university manufacturing lab, he blends shop-floor expertise, software-driven tooling experience from earlier developer roles, and practical product delivery. He also spent a decade as a flight instructor, a background that sharpens attention to safety, procedure, and human factors in engineering. Colleagues describe him as the kind of engineer who seeks creative ways to “make cool stuff” and then proves they work.
