Top SchoolSam Fries is a Senior Staff Software Engineer at Google Search with 13 years of experience designing data-driven, scalable systems and leading large teams to deliver high-quality product experiences on one of the web’s largest surfaces. He blends deep technical craftsmanship—building maintainable systems and rigorous A/B experimentation—with organizational design and project management practices that help 100+ engineer organizations move coherently amid competing priorities. Primarily an individual contributor, he frequently leads 20+ engineer projects and decomposes complex product problems into independent, iterating workstreams informed by extensive data analysis (some of which has been published externally by Google). Based in San Jose, he pairs a nerd-level enthusiasm for management literature and process optimization with hands-on skills in front-end and full-stack search engineering, and outside work enjoys tinkering with 3D printing and craft beer.
