Senior🎓
Top SchoolSherman Chen is a seasoned software engineer based in San Francisco with nine years of experience building performant web and mobile checkout, payroll, and marketplace platforms. He has driven major migrations and performance wins at PayPal and LinkedIn—rearchitecting checkout into React/GraphQL, launching a native mobile checkout SDK, and leading LinkedIn Web Platform initiatives and dependency migrations. Now engineering in Gusto’s Embedded Payroll org, Sherman combines hands-on frontend expertise (React, Ember, Webpack) with backend work in NodeJS, GraphQL and Go to deliver measurable speed and reliability improvements. He has led teams, mentored engineers to promotion, and co-founded internal councils and task forces that shaped platform strategy and developer education. An inventor on a granted patent for debugging methods and an organizer of large internal dev conferences, Sherman blends product-minded engineering with developer advocacy. He also draws on an unconventional background in sociology and entrepreneurship, having run an e-commerce business managing $2M+ in inventory before returning to full-time software.
