Shubham Nigam is a research-focused AI scientist with a decade of experience bridging legal and healthcare domains through language models and explainable ML. Currently a Research Fellow at University of Birmingham Dubai and a DAAD Postdoc-NeT-AI Fellow, he designs multimodal and retrieval-augmented systems to improve medical decision support in Arabic and English while also leading efforts on foundational models and responsible AI for Indian languages at BharatGen. A PhD graduate from IIT Kanpur, his doctoral work introduced the Court Judgment Prediction and Explanation task and produced datasets and domain-tuned LLMs (InLegalLLaMA, FactLegalLLaMA, RhetoricLLaMA) that have been published at top NLP venues and open-sourced via L-NLProc. He combines rigorous academic research with applied system-building—from avionics software early in his career to document-edit propagation work at Adobe—aiming to deliver interpretable AI that can be audited and deployed in high-stakes settings.
