Top SchoolSlava Jankin is a Chair in Data Science and Government and Deputy Director at the Institute for Data and Artificial Intelligence, blending a decade of leadership in computational social science with hands-on programme and centre building. He has founded and directed major research centres at Birmingham, Hertie and Essex, secured multimillion-pound funding awards, and launched innovative MSc programmes in AI for government and sustainable development. His research bridges political science, AI and environmental policy, with notable work on digital twins for policy innovation and multilingual analysis of political discourse. As The Alan Turing Institute academic lead and director of the Centre for AI in Government, he translates methodological innovation into policy impact, including Horizon-funded projects monitoring public perceptions of climate change. Unusually for an academic leader, he combines deep governance expertise with operational roles in local government and fintech advisory, reflecting a rare mix of scholarly rigor and practical public-sector delivery.
