Summary

Senior🎓
Top SchoolSteve Brudz is a seasoned staff engineer and engineering leader with over 25 years of experience designing and delivering full-stack, mission-critical systems across domains from scientific data platforms at the Broad Institute to TV scheduling for HBO and telecom billing at Lucent. He blends hands-on implementation in modern JavaScript/TypeScript stacks with architectural leadership, agile coaching, and building healthy engineering cultures that sustain low turnover and predictable delivery. Steve has led teams of dozens, shipped OLAP and LIMS systems supporting millions of data points, and scaled practices like CI/CD and automated testing as first-class project priorities. He pairs deep technical breadth—from backend systems and data warehouses to front-end visualizations and VR experiments—with pragmatic product focus and client-facing consulting. Based in Madison, WI, he continues to drive engineering excellence at Big Cartel after senior roles at Def Method and a history of founding consulting engagements. A less obvious strength is his habit of shipping small open-source experiments (including a geographic VR visualization library) to explore new interaction models and inform production design.
