Summary
👤
SeniorSteve Wainstead is a Staff Software Engineer with 17 years of experience building distributed, data-intensive microservices and cloud-native systems. He currently focuses on multi-cloud architectures, Kubernetes, API development, observability, and cybersecurity, with hands-on experience in NodeJS, AWS CDK/SDK, Terraform, Docker and Fastify. Steve has delivered at scale for organizations including The New York Times, Forbes, Advance Publications and Diligent, and has led both engineering teams and consulting engagements for startups and nonprofits. An active open-source maintainer and project founder (notably PhpWiki and Waverous LambdaMOO), he blends software craftsmanship with pragmatic agility across Scrum and Kanban workflows. Beyond software, he spent a decade as a radio producer — a collection of his programs is archived in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame — reflecting a long-standing curiosity for storytelling and archival systems. Based in Charlotte, NC, he brings a rare mix of legacy systems experience and modern cloud-native practice to solving observability and distributed programming challenges.
