Steven Batten is a Principal Software Engineering Manager at Microsoft with over a decade of experience shaping Visual Studio Code’s product and engineering direction. Rising through technical and managerial roles since 2013, he blends hands-on full‑stack contributions to the widely used vscode repository—including UI theming and core editor logic—with team leadership that drives delivery at scale. Based in Renton, WA, he pairs an M.S. in Computer Science from UCF with deep institutional knowledge of Microsoft’s developer tools, from driver/test internships to senior engineering. Known for moving between UI polish and underlying platform concerns, he brings a pragmatic, cross‑discipline approach to shipping developer experiences used by millions.
