Summary

Senior🎓
Top SchoolSteven Skelton is a Staff Software Engineer based in Old Toronto with over a decade leading teams and architecting resilient, cloud-native platforms across AWS, Azure, and GCP. He combines deep hands-on expertise in high-traffic e-commerce, distributed systems, and performance tuning—having driven SLA improvements, cloud migrations, and stateless microservice replatforms for major retail and financial clients. Steven has a strong background in polyglot stacks (Scala/Play, Spring Boot, Node.js, .NET/Java interop), data grids and caching strategies, and practical SRE practices such as disaster recovery, load testing, and observability. He’s equally comfortable designing middleware and integration layers (Quarkus, Apache Camel, Thrift) and leading offshore engineering teams to deliver complex migrations and greenfield solutions. Unusually for a senior architect, he has repeatedly bridged legacy and modern systems—introducing Scala adoption, unifying heterogeneous services, and standardizing CI/CD and build tooling across teams. A University of Waterloo mathematician by training, he pairs rigorous analytical thinking with pragmatic system design to de-risk large-scale technical change.
