Stijn Calders is a PhD researcher and seasoned software engineer with over a decade of experience at the Royal Belgian Institute for Space Aeronomy, specializing in space weather services, citizen science and ESA projects. He leads the technical side of the Radio Meteor Zoo and the BRAMS radio meteor network, blending signal processing, software engineering and human-in-the-loop classification to turn large observational datasets into scientific insight. Former technical project manager for SPENVIS-NG, he has driven web-based, service-oriented architectures used by thousands of spacecraft engineers worldwide. Stijn pairs hands-on IT and project management skills with a deep amateur-astronomy passion—volunteering at a public observatory and exploring how gamification and machine learning can improve volunteer engagement and data quality.
