Thiago Santos is a computer scientist and researcher at Embrapa Agricultural Informatics with 11 years of experience applying computer vision and machine learning to precision agriculture and plant phenotyping. He has developed SLAM- and multi-view stereo–based pipelines for 3D reconstruction of potted and field-grown plants and extracted quantitative traits from those models, bridging robotics-style perception with agricultural needs. Thiago has also supported Embrapa teams in extracting agronomically relevant features from visible and infrared imagery, including thermograms, and performed multivariate analyses of phenomic data. As a CNPq scholarship advisor he mentors undergraduate students on vision and ML projects and has led or co-authored successful proposals funded by FAPESP, FINEP and CNPq. He holds a PhD in Computer Science from USP, combining deep academic training with hands-on, domain-focused research deployment. Notably, his work emphasizes practical measurement pipelines that translate 3D reconstructions into actionable agricultural metrics.
