Thomas Baker is an education manager at Esri with over a decade of experience designing and evaluating curriculum, leading educational research, and integrating GIS and instructional technologies across K–12, higher education, and informal learning. He holds a Ph.D. in Instructional Technology from the University of Kansas and has translated research on online teacher professional development and collaborative student networks into funded initiatives and classroom-ready tools. As a former middle- and high-school science teacher and cofounder/CIO of Pathfinder Science, he has hands-on experience building platforms that supported thousands of classrooms in international collaborative investigations. At Esri he blends technical skills (Python, SQL, ArcGIS, AWS, JavaScript) with marketing, strategic planning, and event leadership to scale outreach and teacher adoption. He is exploring machine learning, universal design, and accessibility for mapping the visually impaired, bringing a research-informed, equity-focused lens to product and curriculum development. Colleagues describe him as equally comfortable in data analysis and in the classroom, turning complex geospatial and learning science into practical, engaging experiences for educators and students.
