Top SchoolThomas Buick is a software engineer with 11 years’ experience specializing in big data systems and full-stack web development, currently building resilient backend architectures at Rakuten in Tokyo. Trained at École Centrale de Nantes, he combines strong engineering fundamentals with hands-on expertise in Elasticsearch, Cassandra, relational SQL, and ETL pipelines to simplify and scale data workflows. He routinely automates infrastructure and deployments using Terraform, Helm, Docker/Kubernetes and has redesigned legacy clusters and ETL pipelines into production-parity, easily deployable stacks. Comfortable across Java, .NET Core, Python and scripting (Bash, Ruby), he bridges backend services, observability (ELK) and front-end frameworks like Angular and Vue.js. Notably, he implemented a Firebase-like remote configuration service and replaced a fragmented Azure-based metrics pipeline with a streamlined ELK/EventHub solution. Fluent in operating at the intersection of DevOps and application development, he focuses on high availability, performance testing and pragmatic automation.
