Top SchoolThomas Manning is a Staff Site Reliability Engineer with 12 years of experience, currently helping run and scale Google Cloud's Persistent Disk service from Kirkland, WA. He combines deep low-level knowledge—from assembler and OS internals—to modern web development, functional programming, and extensive automation expertise. At Google he led SLO-driven reliability improvements, launched Regional PDs and device clones, and drove an order-of-magnitude reduction in SLO burn while expanding the team rapidly. He builds instrumentation, monitoring, and operational tooling, authors customer-facing docs and runbooks, and trains new engineers as an SRE tech lead. Curious and fearless about new domains, he pursues language design and the role of technology in education alongside production reliability work.
