Tim Mullen is a computational and cognitive neuroscientist, entrepreneur, and investor who has spent over two decades translating brain science into scalable neurotechnology products and companies. As founder and Research Director of Intheon he built NeuroScale, a real-time cloud platform for biosignal processing and BCI integration, and he also leads Sanmai in pioneering focused ultrasound therapies for mental health. His work spans academia, industry, and standards bodies—contributing to widely used open-source toolkits (EEGLAB, SIFT, LSL, XDF) and helping establish the first commercial consumer EEG standard through IEEE/ANSI. A dual UC Berkeley undergraduate (highest honors) and UCSD Ph.D., he has held research roles with NASA, DARPA, Meta Reality Labs, and PARC while earning multiple fellowships and IEEE best paper awards. Beyond tech, Tim is an active new media artist and musician whose interactive installations fuse BCMI with themes of consciousness and nature, reflecting a rare blend of rigorous science and creative practice. He also invests and advises across neurotech and frontier mental health, bringing a practitioner’s eye to ethical, clinical, and product translation challenges.

SIFT is an EEGLAB-compatible toolbox for analysis and visualization of multivariate causality and information flow between sources of electrophysiological (EEG/ECoG/MEG) activity. It consists of a suite of command-line functions with an integrated Graphical User Interface for easy access to multiple features. There are currently six modules: data preprocessing, model fitting and connectivity estimation, statistical analysis, visualization, group analysis, and neuronal data simulation.
