Summary
Tomás Gomes is a postdoctoral researcher and computational biologist with 11 years’ experience applying genomics, imaging and machine learning to dissect cell identity in immunity, regeneration and evolution. He has led single-cell, single-nucleus multi-omics and spatial transcriptomics analyses across human and non-model organisms, designing high-throughput immunohistochemistry and multi-modal experiments to link regulation with tissue architecture. Trained at the Wellcome Sanger Institute and ETH D-BSSE, his PhD work contributed to methods now standard in droplet-based single-cell analysis and he has ongoing collaborations in the Human Cell Atlas community. Based in Cascais, Portugal, he combines hands-on computational pipelines with wet-lab experimental design to model immune and regenerative biology in vitro. He is particularly interested in mechanistic and computational models that translate transcriptional regulation into functional immune system behaviors.
